When Hiring a Mover - Ask them These Questions
- Do you have additional fees for: trip charges/fuel, stairs, heavy or special items disassembly/re-assembly of items?
- Do you bring power tools? (We do! This is a huge time saver!)
- Do you have specially modified high capacity dollies for carrying larger loads especially up stairs?
- Will you provide and or change my Dryer Plug, assemble: beds, bunk beds, tv stands? (or anything else you need done)
You will find the common answer is no. This is because it goes against their better interests to “speed your move up”. They work by the hour. The quote we give you is usually almost half of what the other “big name” companies do.
We would rather earn your business and have you refer your friends than take longer than necessary on your move. Also, when you call, you’ll talk to Colin himself, the owner. He will have a lot of questions, because as an experienced mover he knows what to ask to give an accurate estimate and provide an efficient move. You can’t give a good, accurate quote if you don’t know all of the details. He’ll also tell you how you can help yourself by packing efficiently. It will save you time and money.

We completed a U-Haul experiment in which we rented a 14′ truck for an average 1 bedroom move. The initial cost they advertised was $19.95 a day. I found out the hard way that this couldn’t have been further from the truth! After insurance, mileage and fuel, the total cost for a 1 bedroom move, which was average size and took two trips (the second not very full at all) was $178.
Speedy Move’s two hour minimum, using a large trailer (32ft), more than enough room for one trip, is $220. And, our price includes everything! Two men, power tools to take things apart, and two hours of labor for only $42 more than what you will pay to do the job yourself.
$42 is a small price to pay to have someone do the labor for you. So call us. It’s just not worth the effort and the time to do it yourself when we can do it for you for just a few dollars more.
